A Q&A, a course and a talk at a seminar – lipoedema news

A Q&A, a course, a talk at a seminar

There’s so much going on in my lipoedema world right now it’s hard to know what to share first.

I think I may go chronologically

Lipoedema Surgery Q&A

I’m co-hosting a Lipoedema Surgery Q&A with my colleague Shannon Chandler (@medimassage on Instagram). The Q&A will be held on Zoom and recorded so if you can’t make it live, have no fear, you can watch the recording in your own time.

Shannon and I trained together in the Vodder Technique in 2013 and she has been working exclusively with pre and post op surgical patients ever since. She has a steady stream of patients being directly referred to her from plastic surgeons around Sydney.

Who better to join me on a Q&A about pre and post care for lipoedema surgery?

If you’ve ever had questions about how to prepare and recover from lipoedema surgery then this is for you.

You can send me questions directly or you can add them when you register for the event (if you can’t attend live) or simply ask them on the night.

Here’s the link to sign up.

Next up, we’ll be creating a course for those preparing for lipoedema surgery.

We’ll be looking at the before (all the conservative treatment necessary to prepare), the during (what to take to hospital etc) and the after (post surgical care, managing expectations etc).

We’d love to get some feedback to help us create the course to reflect your needs and we have created a quick survey to help us find out what YOU want (rather than what WE think you need). Here’s the link.

Initial responses to the survey so far are showing that we need to talk about more than just surgery, and need to focus on the why and the how

The ATMS is holding a seminar on lipoedema in 2025

The ATMS is Australia’s largest multi-modality national professional association (and I am a member) and next year, in March, they will be hosting a full day seminar on lipoedema for registered therapists.

This is HUGE!

This will put lipoedema in front of hundreds (potentially thousands) of natural therapists – massage therapists, naturopaths, acupuncturists, Chinese Medicine therapist to name a few.

I have been asked to present on the different types of conservative care therapists can suggest for their clients and I’ll also do a demonstration of some simple massage techniques they can use during their consults.

I’ve seen the line up of speakers and personally know three of the other four, so I know this will be of huge benefit to attendees.

I am excited beyond belief to be able to educate other professionals on the topic.

A course for therapists

And here’s a very early heads up … Shannon and I are also planning a course for therapists to teach them about pre and post lipoedema surgery care! More on that in the new year.
