Let’s Get Real About “Miracle” Lipoedema Cures

We’ve all seen the claims online for the latest “miracle” lipoedema cures:

“Tights guaranteed to reduce lipoedema.”
“Grounding mats that eliminate symptoms.”
“This cream will smooth out your lipoedema bumps.”

Sound familiar?

I could list dozens more. Every day, people with lipoedema are targeted by marketing that promises a quick fix and it irritates me no end.

The Truth Behind the Hype

It’s fantastic that lipoedema is finally getting more recognition. But with awareness comes a disappointing side-effect … businesses jumping on the bandwagon, selling products that prey on people’s hope for a cure.

Are all of them scams? Of course not.

But how can you tell the difference between something that actually helps and something that’s just hype?

Here’s the bottom line – there is no cure for lipoedema.

So if a post on social media or an ad in your feed claims otherwise, keep scrolling.

Before buying anything online, do your homework:

  • Check independent reviews.
  • Ask for recommendations in your support groups.
  • Look for credible sources, not just influencers or sponsored posts.

And trust me, if there was a cure, Lipoedema Australia would be shouting it from the rooftops. I can say that confidently because I serve on their board and have also been part of their advisory board.

Spotting Red Flags

If you see a well-known surgeon, researcher, or other respected professional publicly “endorsing” a specific brand, it’s likely a scam, or at best, stretching the truth. Ethical professionals do not promote individual brands. It’s a conflict of interest and goes against professional standards.

Instead of spending your money on another overhyped product, book an appointment with a professional who truly understands lipoedema.

I know they can be hard to find, we are as rare as hen’s teeth, but we do exist. The right practitioner can make an enormous difference in your care.

Here are some professionals who might help:

  • Remedial massage therapists
  • Physiotherapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Nutritionists or dietitians
  • Nurses or practitioners trained in lymphoedema/lipoedema care

That’s by no means a complete list, but it’s a good place to start.

What Does Help

Here are my top recommendations for managing lipoedema symptoms in a practical, evidence-based way:

  • Compression garments – I recommend CZsalus, Solidea, and Bioflects, as well as major compression brands like Sigvaris, Haddenham, Jobst, and Juzo (not an exhaustive list).
  • Compression pumps – I only endorse pumps from Medi-Rent and LymphaPress, as both have research behind them showing their effectiveness in treating lymphoedema.
  • Vibration plates – Always choose oscillating versions. Hypervibe is top-of-the-line, but I personally use an Everfit plate, it’s compact and fits my tiny space.
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) – Gentle, targeted, and performed by someone who understands lipoedema. Ask your therapist about their training, experience, and whether they stay up to date with continuing education. A good place to find a therapist is on the ALA website.
